U.S. Navy’s P-8A Poseidon Conducts Its First Training Mission in Republic of Korea

A flight crew from Patrol Squadron (VP) 16 out of Jacksonville, Fla., invited Republic of Korea navy sailors to tour the P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and observe the aircraft’s capabilities during a flight demonstration and static display event in Busan, South Korea, March 30.

The U.S. Navy’s P-8A Poseidon, the U.S. Navy’s newest maritime patrol platform, flew its first missions in the Republic of Korea, March 27-31 in support of exercise Foal Eagle 2014.

Exercise Foal Eagle in an umbrella of regularly scheduled, annual exercises between U.S. and Republic of Korea armed forces. The exercise gave maritime patrol crews from both the U.S. and Republic of Korea navies the opportunity to train together and exchange ideas and concepts.

“Today was a great opportunity to strengthen relationships with our Korean counterparts and show what operational capabilities this aircraft brings to the Pacific and to our allies,” said Lt. Cmdr. Dwight Brungard, aircraft commander. “Everyone was discussing the similarities and differences between the P-8 and the P-3 which is great because it’s so important for us to understand each other and learn to work seamlessly together.”
