Talk about the Navy’s presence around the world! On Feb. 22, 1909, the “Great White Fleet” arrived in Hampton Roads, Va., after sailing around the world starting Dec. 16, 1907. The 14-month long voyage was a grand pageant of American sea power. 14,000 Sailors manned the squadrons. They covered some 43,000 miles and made 20 port calls on six continents.
