239 Years of Service

Today, the Navy celebrates its birthday, marking 239 years of Naval service, and for each Sailor, the drive to serve is different.

This summer, the #WhyIServe campaign has provided our Sailors the opportunity to reflect on and share their personal reasons for serving in the U.S. Navy.

From Sailors forward-deployed aboard USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) to Sailors in the U.S Navy Band, and everywhere in between, their stories have been shared using #WhyIServe.

Navy Diver 1st Class Todd Verhagen's, from Kimberly, Wisc., shares his Why I Serve statement during joint training dive with Belize Coast Guard divers at Belize's famous Blue Hole.

Happy Birthday, Navy!
