European Reassurance

With the drawdown happening in Afghanistan, the chatter regarding the United States’ shift to the Asia Pacific has taken up a lot of our focus and attention, and rightfully so. The Asia-Pacific is one of the most critical regions for global security and the global economy.

But, what about Europe?

Well, to reemphasize our commitment to our European allies, the White House put out a press release earlier this month reminding us the United States is still fully engaged with our European allies and has taken action, both bilaterally and through NATO, to reassure our partners from across the pond our commitment to their security and territorial integrity as members of the NATO Alliance.

One of the military exercises currently happening is in Pordenone, Italy where paratroopers from 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade are performing jumps from 12th Combat Aviation Brigade CH-47 Chinook helicopters alongside NATO allies from the Slovenian Armed Forces at Juliet Drop Zone.

Keeping up with the European topic, this weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I. The Pentagon Channel will be airing a special program today, June 28, 1:30 a.m. ET and 2:30 p.m. ET. NATO Review magazine takes an in-depth look at how medical practices that began 100 years ago are still used today by both military and civilian hospitals.
